Kolmas ülesand

For analysis, I selected Canvas. To be precise, the Canvas Instructure. I got acquainted with this environment in September, when I began to take one of the courses. From a student’s point of view, I can note a number of advantages that, in my opinion, Canvas has:

  • Convenience. Everything is very conveniently located and very easy to understand the structure. Of course, much depends on the structure of the course itself, but if we consider only the structure of the site, then we can say that it is intuitive and does not cause difficulties.

  • Openness. You can without any problems a lot of different courses in different disciplines, both already completed and still going.

  • Feedback. Continuous notification of changes in the course. Did someone post a comment under your post? Here you have an email notification. The teacher checked the assignment? A notification

  • Free. If I understand correctly, you can use Canvas as a free platform.

For 2 months of using the system, I can say that only one thing is not very convenient for me. Using a mobile device to access, there are problems with the teacher’s response and the writing of comments.

Also, when searching for any courses other than the exact name, navigation problems may occur. In addition, Canvas has a lot of empty and not convenient courses, so when looking for a course for self-study, you will have to spend time looking for the right one. It would be convenient if there was a more complex system for filtering courses by various parameters.

From the point of view of the teacher, I just have to face Canvas, since I will take it as a system for creating my own course at a university in Russia.

The system for creating your own course is extremely simple. We simply press the “Start a new course” button and the initial settings window opens in front of us (Pic. 3). There we can enter the name of the course and choose the type of Content License.

Next we open the course editing window. In it, you can add new modules, select the home page, make a new ad, etc. (Pic. 4)

By creating a new module, you can add a different data type to it (Pic. 5). You can also make a module open only from a specific date and time.

It is very convenient to create, for example, a discussion, you can configure its type (group or not), set its goals, make links to other content, set deadlines and access opening times, etc. (Pic. 6)

The only, in my opinion, minus I can call the need to think over my course. In order for it to work well, you need to think as well as possible all the links between the elements of the course and also successfully implement them using the tools available in Canvas. Perhaps for the implementation of some specific tasks he does not have the appropriate tools, but for the implementation of the usual and creating just a good course he has all the resources, so everything will depend on the level of training of the teacher.

In my opinion, perhaps a little should be reworked the structure of evaluation, making it more complex and brighter, for example, the possibility of evaluating with icons, adding any achievements. This may at least slightly, but increase the level of motivation of students.
